We first took an interest in energy efficient and sustainable buildings in the late 1970s. Our first building designed on this premise, a shopping centre, was completed using stack ventilation techniques in the early 1980s. Since then we?ve undertaken a number of energy efficient buildings using night cooling and similar techniques. In recent years this interest has expanded to take in the wider aspects of sustainability with a positive whole-life approach through our Design4Life projects, and in-house Ecohome expertise. We have also taken part in a research programmes to study the wider considerations involved and led a DTI funded project examining the full range of economic and social as well as environmental considerations published by the Estates Gazette as Building Sustainability in the Balance.
