DLG COMPLETES MANCHESTER'S SUNLIGHT HOUSE
National practice DLG Architects has completed a £3 million renovation project for Sunlight House at Spinningfields, Manchester’s new commercial district on behalf of its client, APIA Regional Office Fund (General Partner) Limited. The Grade II listed building was designed by famous local architect, Joseph Sunlight and on completion in 1932 was the tallest building in the north.
A 14 storey mixed use building, Sunlight House comprises mainly of office accommodation with a bar and gym on the ground floor. DLG undertook comprehensive refurbishment which included the redesign of two entrance foyers and stair cores, landings, public areas, toilets and common areas. It also fully refurbished several newly vacated office floors up to Cat A standard, complete with comfort cooling to these suites. The newly refurbished ninth floor has been well received by agents and potential occupiers as it offers Grade A specification within a historically important setting of a Grade II building.
DLG has been successful in delivering a sophisticated crisp design that cleverly compliments the fine original features of the building, whilst creating modern office space and facilities with character. Due to Sunlight House’s location in the Deansgate/Peter Street conservation area, DLG worked closely with the local planning and conservation office to ensure the correct balance between conservation and modernisation.
Julian Monaghan, partner at DLG Architects commented:
“Sunlight House is just one of a number of office refurbishments within conservation areas that DLG has been undertaking more recently including Cable House in London. We are regularly called upon for our expertise and ability to offer modern solutions within listed buildings.”
