DLG WINS APPROVAL FOR A NEW HOTEL IN HIGH WYCOMBE
On behalf of its client The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society, DLG Architects has received planning permission from Wycombe District Council for a major new hotel in High Wycombe.Forming part of the rejuvenation of the Chilterns Shopping Centre in the town centre, the approved plans will provide a more engaging experience for visitors to the centre and the Frogmoor area of High Wycombe.
It is hoped that work will start on site mid 2010 when part of the existing Windsor House office accommodation will be demolished to make way for an additional three floors of new build hotel accommodation expanding over the existing service yard and parking area the modern new hotel will house 124 bedrooms and be accessed at ground floor level from Frogmoor.
To encourage a more social café scene and stronger footfall, a new restaurant will be introduced onto Frogmoor adjacent to the hotel’s entrance. Julian Monaghan, partner at DLG Architects commented: “We are incredibly pleased to have achieved planning approval so quickly for the centre. This will now hopefully provide the momentum to attract other major high street retailers into the area and compete with the recently completed Eden Shopping Centre thus regaining some vitality and footfall to the area.”
The construction programme will take approximately 10 months and existing tenants such as Primark, H Samuel and Wilkinsons will be able to continue trade during the restoration works.
