DLG Architects Appointed for HBOS HQ
The Leeds office of DLG Architects has been appointed by HBOS Group
to design and manage refurbishment works for a glass replacement scheme
within its Retail Banking headquarters in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
Located
in the heart of Halifax’s town centre the site comprises the
distinctive 1970’s Headquarters building and the 1980’s Collinsons
Building which incorporates the retained frontage of the Grade II
Listed Halifax Freemason’s Hall within a four-storey high atrium.
The
atrium glazing has suffered from ‘nickel sulphide inclusion’ causing
the toughened glass to fracture and fall out. DLG have managed the
contract for the replacement of the roof glazing and the application of
safety film to the glazed walls.
DLG Architects have also
secured Listed Building Consent for providing new break out spaces
within the Atrium and developed further proposals for updating the
external and entrance spaces.
James Palmer of DLG Architects
comments, “The HBOS buildings are of great regional significance. We
were keen to respect the spirit of both the Modern and Listed buildings
on the site while providing design solutions which bring the complex up
to the standards expected into the 21st Century.”
