November 2002

DLG Architects has won a 2002 Leisure Property Forum Award for the Light Leeds, which was voted ?Best Commercial UK Mixed Use Scheme?.

The ?100 million centre, beat off competition from Cornerhouse in Nottingham;  Grants Entertainment Centre, Croydon;  Millennium Plaza, Cardiff and The Brewery, Romford to clinch the title.

Judges gave The Light top marks for its design, commercial success, quality and innovation with ex Millennium Dome Chief, P Y Gerbeau saying ?it?s the most brave and innovative design I have seen in a long time?.

Partner, Julian Monaghan, said ?We set out to make the Light a memorable and unique experience and we are delighted for this to have been recognised within the industry.

The Light brings together shops, restaurants, bars, a 13 screen cinema, Health Club, 4 Star Radisson SAS Hotel and car park.

The 450,000 ft? development incorporates two existing listed buildings and creates a spectacular glazed street to continue the strong tradition of Leeds Arcades.

The Light has already been voted ?Best Commercial Development? in the RICS Regional Property Awards earlier in the year.
